Why these settings

The Champion 20 has no mid knob — keep amp clean (gain 3) as a platform for the recommended fuzz pedal which provides ALL the saturation. Bass boosted to 7 compensates for the Strat's thinner single-coils vs the original's likely humbucker offsets. Treble at 5 prevents ice-pick highs through the fuzz. Without pedals, this tone is unreachable — the Champion cannot produce shoegaze saturation alone.

PRO TIPRoll your Strat's tone knob to 4 and use the neck pickup exclusively — this fattens single-coils to approximate the warmer humbucker-offset tone Whirr uses. When you get the fuzz, strum full open chords and let them ring into each other; shoegaze tone is as much about sustained note collision as it is gear.
