RECOMMENDED — not currently owned. Your Champion 20 is a solid-state amp that cannot produce natural tube saturation. A TS-style OD will push the front end into warmer, more compressed breakup territory. Without this pedal, the tone will be thinner and more sterile than the original.
02Digital Delay (Boss DD-3 or TC Electronic Flashback Mini)
RECOMMENDED — not currently owned. Adds the studio spaciousness heard on the recording. Set delay time around 350-400ms with low mix for subtle slapback/ambience.
The original Marshall tone is mid-forward and tube-saturated. Your Fender Champion 20 is solid-state with scooped Fender voicing, so I pushed mid to 8 (vs the original's ~7) and dropped treble to 5 (vs ~6) to compensate for the Champion's brighter, thinner character. The Champion's gain circuit won't replicate true tube compression — an OD pedal in front is essential to approach the original's warmth and sustain.
