Why these settings

The MG30FX lacks a presence control and can get fizzy in the upper register, so we use the warmer OD-1 channel at moderate gain rather than OD-2. The MXR 6-Band EQ provides the critical 800Hz-1.6kHz midrange boost that defines EVH's Variac Plexi tone. The Boss OS-2 is left bypassed since the amp's OD-1 channel provides authentic Marshall crunch without double-gain mud.

PRO TIPPick aggressively near the bridge with heavy downstrokes; EVH's attack comes largely from a stiff pick striking firmly at a slight angle right above the bridge pickup.
