Crazy train amp settings — Fender Frontman 10G
The Randy Rhoades guitar tone for “Crazy train”, dialed in for a Fender Frontman 10G with a Sqoe Sest 250. Studio version solo, Blizzard of Ozz (1980)
1974 Gibson Les Paul Custom (Super Humbuckers) into MXR Distortion+ -> MXR 10-Band Graphic EQ into mid-1970s Marshall JMP 1959 Super Lead MKII (Altec 417-8H speakers)
| Knob | Setting (0–10) |
|---|---|
| Gain | 6 |
| Bass | 3 |
| Treble | 7 |
| Master | 4 |
01Boss GE-7 Equalizer
Recreates Randy's signature MXR 10-band mid-hump and pushes the TS808 input
02Ibanez Tube Screamer TS808
Primary gain and clipping stage in front of the amp
03Boss DD-8 Digital Delay
Set to standard digital delay; emulates studio double-tracking and AMS delay width
The Frontman 10G has only Bass and Treble knobs (no physical Mid, Presence, or Reverb controls), so the Boss GE-7 is essential to recreate Randy's iconic 400Hz-800Hz midrange boost. Because the 10G's 6-inch speaker turns muddy if pushed too hard in the low end, keep the amp Bass low at 3 while the TS808 and GE-7 deliver the tight clipping and cutting sustain. The TS808 drive is pushed high to compensate for single-coil output on the Sqoe Sest Strat bridge pickup.
