The Fender Champion 40 is set to its ultra-clean Channel 1 with gain at 2 to emulate the massive, high-headroom Hiwatt DR103 power platform without double-gain mud. Because the Champion 40 faceplate lacks a middle control (bass and treble only), the TS9 is stacked after the Big Muff with drive low and level high to restore the crucial mid-range vocal cut that Gilmour achieved. Treble is kept moderate at 5 to prevent the Big Muff's top end from getting harsh on a solid-state speaker. Clean verse: bypass Big Muff and TS9, engage MXR Phase 90.
