Why these settings

The Champion 20 is a solid-state Fender with scooped American voicing—opposite of the JCM800's mid-forward bark. Compensate by pushing mid to 7 (original JCM800 was around 5-6) and keeping treble conservative at 5 to avoid the Fender's harsh high-frequency spike. The SG's humbuckers are hotter than Toro's Les Paul JB setup, so gain stays at 7 rather than cranked. Roll tone knob to 7 to tame the SG's natural brightness.

PRO TIPToro's tight palm-muted rhythm on 'Dead!' comes from picking directly over the bridge saddles with the heel of your picking hand planted firmly—this kills the low-end flub that solid-state amps struggle with. Dig in hard on downstrokes.
