Knee Socks amp settings — Frontman 10G
The Arctic Monkeys guitar tone for “Knee Socks”, dialed in for a Frontman 10G with a Yamaha Pacifica 012. Studio version, AM (2013)
Selmer Zodiac Twin 30 + Magnatone Custom 410, Coopersonic Valveslapper distortion, Fulltone Mini DejaVibe, Boss DM-1 Delay, Vox Starstream XII 12-string and Gretsch Duo Jet
| Knob | Setting (0–10) |
|---|---|
| Gain | 7 |
| Bass | 6 |
| Treble | 4 |
| Master | 4 |
01ProCo RAT 2 or clone
RECOMMENDED — not currently owned. Essential for this tone. The Filter knob rolled back (10 o'clock / value 3) tames harsh treble and gives that thick, wooly fuzz character. A Boss DS-1 is a budget alternative but will be brighter and less smooth.
02Chorus/Vibrato (e.g., Behringer UV300, TC Electronic Viscous Vibe)
RECOMMENDED — not currently owned. Slow, deep warble is key to Knee Socks' hypnotic vibe. Univibe-style pedals nail it; a basic chorus set slow and deep gets close.
The Frontman 10G is a solid-state practice amp with no mid knob, limited gain, and no onboard reverb or tremolo. I've pushed gain to 7 to get whatever breakup it offers and rolled treble to 4 to avoid the fizzy high-end these small amps produce with distortion. Without the RAT-style pedal, this tone is unobtainable — the Frontman's overdrive is thin and buzzy, not the thick wooly fuzz Turner uses. The original tone's lush reverb and vibrato are also missing without pedals.
