01Delay Pedal (e.g., Boss DD-3 or any budget delay)

RECOMMENDED — not currently owned. Essential for the Echoplex-style swell on held notes. Set delay time around 350-400ms. Without this, you lose 40% of the tone's character.

02Overdrive Pedal (e.g., Boss SD-1 or Joyo Vintage Overdrive)

RECOMMENDED — not currently owned. The Frontman 10G is a solid-state practice amp with limited breakup. This pedal simulates the cranked-Tweed compression and harmonic saturation that defines Felder's singing lead tone.

Why these settings

The original used PAF humbuckers into a cranked tube amp — your Squier's single coils are brighter and lower output. Neck pickup with tone rolled to 6 fattens the sound toward humbucker territory. Mid pushed to 8 compensates for the Frontman's naturally scooped solid-state voicing; treble dropped to 5 tames single-coil ice. Without an overdrive pedal, the Frontman cannot produce the harmonic breakup that defines this tone — gain at 7 is the ceiling before it turns harsh.

PRO TIPPick over the neck pickup itself (not near the bridge) and use your fingertip flesh slightly angled on the pick attack — this is how Felder gets that fat, rounded note bloom rather than a thin, snappy attack.
