schism amp settings — Ampeg SVT Classic
The tool guitar tone for “schism”, dialed in for a Ampeg SVT Classic with a Fender Player Jazz Bass. Studio version, Lateralus (2001) - iconic main riff tone

01Boss BF-2 Flanger
RECOMMENDED — not currently owned; Chancellor uses subtle modulation on the main riff
02Tech 21 SansAmp GT2
RECOMMENDED — not currently owned; provides the harmonic grind for heavier sections
The Ampeg SVT-CL provides tube warmth compared to Chancellor's solid-state GK 2001RB, so setting the Mid Frequency selector switch to position 3 (800 Hz) and boosting the Mid knob to 8 delivers the signature Tool midrange punch. Bass is pulled back to 4 to prevent low-end boom, and treble is pushed to 7 to emulate the bright active Wal pickup clank on a passive Jazz Bass. On your Jazz Bass, keep both pickup volumes and the tone knob at 10 for maximum cut.
