Honky tonk woman amp settings — Multiefectos M-wawe black box

The Rollings guitar tone for “Honky tonk woman”, dialed in for a Multiefectos M-wawe black box with a Fender Player Stratocaster. Studio version, single release (1969) — the iconic cowbell intro track

Original rig

Keith Richards: Fender Telecaster (5-string, Open G tuning) → Fender Twin Reverb set clean with edge-of-breakup. Mick Taylor (lead): Gibson Les Paul or Telecaster → Fender Twin Reverb, standard tuning, bridge pickup, light overdrive for fills

Swampy, raw, clean-with-grit rhythm; bluesy lead fills with dirty edge and sustain — not distorted, just pushing the amp

RECOMMENDED — use as a clean boost to push the amp into light breakup for lead fills. If your M-Wave has an internal OD/boost block, engage it with these settings. For rhythm, bypass it entirely.

Why these settings

Your Strat's single coils are brighter and lower output than Richards' Telecaster, so I pushed mids to 6 and kept treble at 6 to avoid ice-pick highs. The M-Wave's Fender-style clean model should replicate the Twin Reverb's headroom — gain stays low (3) because the original tone is NOT distorted, just pushed to the edge. The middle pickup on your Strat approximates the Tele's quacky in-between sound Richards favors.

PRO TIPThe groove lives in your picking hand — strike the strings aggressively with a loose wrist, let open strings ring, and leave SPACE. Richards' magic is what he doesn't play. For authenticity, tune to Open G (D-G-D-G-B-D) and remove or mute your low E string.
