01Volume Pedal (RECOMMENDED — not currently owned)

RECOMMENDED — not owned. Critical for the signature volume swells on verse chords. Place BEFORE delay. An Ernie Ball VP Jr or similar is ideal. Without this, use your guitar volume knob to manually swell into notes.

02Digital Delay (M-Wave internal or model block)

Set delay time around 150-200ms. Keep mix subtle — it thickens the tone without muddying it. Quarter-note triplet feel if your unit has tap tempo.

03Chorus (M-Wave internal or model block)

Very subtle stereo chorus to add width and shimmer — the original used an Eventide H3000 Rich Chorus in post. Keep it low in the mix.

Why these settings

Your Fender Player Strat with its single coils is an excellent match for Wilsey's 62 reissue. The M-Wave multi-FX should have Fender-style clean amp models — select the cleanest, warmest one available. Keep gain very low; this tone is entirely clean with no breakup. The magic is in the reverb depth, subtle delay, and playing dynamics.

PRO TIPWilsey used the tremolo arm constantly for subtle pitch wobbles and vibrato — not aggressive dive bombs, but gentle microtonal bends that give the melody its weeping, vocal quality. Float your trem with 2-3 springs and practice light upward pulls on sustained notes. Also, pick softly near the neck pickup for that pillowy attack.
