01Electro-Harmonix Metal Muff
This is your primary gain source—the Fender stays clean underneath. Engage Top Boost switch but keep the knob conservative to avoid fizz.
The Fender Champion 20 is a solid-state practice amp with scooped, bright American voicing—it cannot produce Rectifier saturation on its own. The Metal Muff becomes your entire gain stage; I dropped amp gain to 3 to keep the platform clean and avoid mud from double-saturation. Pushed mids to 6 to compensate for Fender's natural mid-scoop and match the Rectifier's retained-mid character Kruspe uses for note clarity in drop tuning. Your SC-Custom II's passive humbuckers are warmer and less compressed than EMG 81s, so the Metal Muff's Distortion at 7 compensates for the lower output.
