01MXR 6-Band EQ (M109) or similar graphic EQ
RECOMMENDED — not currently owned. This pedal is ESSENTIAL to the Dimebag tone; the V-curve mid scoop is half the sound. A Behringer EQ700 or Joyo 6-Band EQ are budget alternatives. Run it in front of the amp input, before the amp's gain stage.
02Noise Gate (Boss NS-2 or similar)
RECOMMENDED — not currently owned. Critical for the tight, choked stops in the riff. Without it, the high gain will sustain through the rests and lose the groove.
The Spider 3's Metal channel is a reasonable match for the Randall RG100ES — both are solid-state high-gain designs with tight, uncompressed attack. Mid is set to 3 (scooped) because the original tone relies heavily on the V-curve EQ; without the recommended graphic EQ pedal, push mid down to 2 and bass/treble up by 1 each to approximate the scoop from the amp alone. The Lyxpro's humbucker is lower output than Dimebag's L-500XL, so gain stays at 8 rather than the 7 he used.
