Why these settings

The Yamaha GA-15 is a small solid-state practice amp with no channel switching and limited headroom—it cannot replicate Recto saturation on its own. Gain is maxed at 8 to push the preamp as hard as possible. Bass is cut to 4 (vs original 6) because the GA-15 gets flubby in the low end at high gain, and your Strat's single coils lack the low-mid thump of Grohl's PAF humbuckers. Mid is raised to 7 to compensate for the Strat's scooped voicing and get closer to the humbucker bark. Treble is dropped to 5 because Strat bridge pickups are ice-picky where a 335 is warm. Without the recommended TS pedal, you'll get a fizzy approximation—not the real thing.

PRO TIPTune to Drop D and palm-mute hard on the verse chug—Grohl's right hand does most of the tonal work. Dig in on downstrokes and let the strings breathe on the octave chorus riff. If the tone feels thin, roll the tone knob down to 5 and pick closer to the neck.
