01Boss DS-1 Distortion (or equivalent)
RECOMMENDED — not currently owned. Essential for this tone. The GA-15's clean preamp cannot produce high-gain saturation; a DS-1 or similar distortion pedal provides the gain stage. Run amp nearly clean.
The original uses a Mesa Rectifier or Marshall JMP-1 at high gain into a tight 4x12 — your GA-15 is a 15W solid-state practice amp that cannot reach this saturation from its preamp alone. The RECOMMENDED DS-1 becomes your gain source; amp gain stays low (7) to avoid flubby clipping. Bass dropped from 6.5 to 4 because small speakers break up badly with boosted lows. Mid stays scooped (3) to match the original's aggressive scoop. The GA-15 lacks presence and reverb knobs.
