The Lost Ones Weeping amp settings — Yamaha GA-15

The Neri guitar tone for “The Lost Ones Weeping”, dialed in for a Yamaha GA-15 with a Fender American Professional II Stratocaster. Original Vocaloid release by Neru feat. Kagamine Rin (2013) — synthesized/programmed guitar tones, not recorded through real amps

Original rig

Programmed/synthesized distortion guitar and overdriven guitar via DAW (likely guitar amp simulation VST such as Guitar Rig, Amplitube, or similar). No verified physical amp/pedal rig exists — this is a Vocaloid/electronic production with MIDI-programmed guitar parts, not a live guitar recording.

Aggressive digital distortion with tight palm-muted chugs, scooped mids, modern high-gain voicing with fizzy upper harmonics typical of amp sim plugins

01Distortion Pedal (Boss DS-1 or similar)

RECOMMENDED — not currently owned. Essential for this tone. The Yamaha GA-15 cannot produce high-gain distortion from its preamp alone. A DS-1, MT-2, or any modern distortion pedal is required to reach the aggressive saturation of the original.

Why these settings

The Yamaha GA-15 is a 15W solid-state practice amp with minimal preamp gain — it tops out at mild crunch even at gain 10. The original is a programmed high-gain tone from an amp simulator plugin, not a real amp. To approximate this, you MUST use an external distortion pedal as your gain source. Amp settings above assume the pedal provides all saturation; amp gain at 7 adds slight edge without mud. Mid at 4 gives the scooped modern character; bass at 6 provides palm-mute thump without overwhelming the small 6.5" speaker.

PRO TIPUse aggressive downstroke palm muting directly over the bridge pickup pole pieces for the tight 'chug' attack. The original's programmed guitars have unnaturally consistent dynamics — to match, pick hard and evenly, almost mechanically, and keep your fretting hand muting tight to eliminate string noise between notes.
