RECOMMENDED — not currently owned. A Boss DS-1, MXR Distortion+, or any metal distortion pedal is essential to reach this tone. The Champion 20 cannot produce high-gain metal saturation on its own. Run pedal into amp's clean voice, amp gain at 2-3 when using the pedal.

Why these settings

The Champion 20 is a practice amp with no mid control and limited gain — even maxed, it produces bluesy breakup, not tight metal saturation. The original used a custom high-gain preamp module into a tube power section. Without a distortion pedal, you will get mild crunch at best, not the gated chunk of the recording. Treble pushed to 8 and bass cut to 4 compensates for the amp's loose low-end and helps fake the scooped-mid character Donegan uses.

PRO TIPTune to drop C (C-G-C-F-A-D) and use your bridge pickup's coil-tap if available for tighter note definition on the tremolo-picked riff; palm-mute hard right at the bridge saddles to get that percussive, gated attack Donegan is known for.
