01Distortion Pedal (RECOMMENDED — not currently owned)
RECOMMENDED — not owned. The HB-10G is a 10-watt solid-state practice amp that cannot produce the tight high-gain saturation of a Rectifier. A Boss MT-2 Metal Zone, TC Electronic Dark Matter, or Behringer HM300 (~$25-40) is essential to get anywhere close. Run amp gain at 3-4 when using this pedal.
The HB-10G is a small solid-state amp with limited gain and a boxy frequency response — it will not replicate the JMP-1/Mesa power section's tight low-end and scooped aggression. Mids are dropped to 2 (original was ~3-3.5) because this amp lacks the low-mid tightness of a Rectifier and will sound muddy otherwise. Without a distortion pedal, you will only achieve a fuzzy approximation; the settings above are the closest the amp alone can get, but the tone genuinely requires an external high-gain pedal to be recognizable.
