RECOMMENDED — not currently owned. Essential for this tone. The Champion 20's overdrive cannot reach Rectifier saturation. Run amp Voice on CLEAN with this pedal, gain 3-4 on amp instead.
The original uses a Mesa Dual Rectifier with active EMG humbuckers tuned to C — a modern high-gain metal tone the Champion 20 cannot physically produce alone. Your Telecaster's single-coil bridge is brighter and lower output than Senoue's ESP, so rolling tone to 6 tames the ice-pick. The Champion 20 has no mid knob; its voicing is already slightly scooped which actually helps approximate the Rectifier's modern scoop. A DS-1 or MT-2 style pedal is mandatory to reach this saturation level — without it, max the amp's gain but expect only a crunchy approximation, not true metal saturation.
