01Delay (Digital or Analog)
RECOMMENDED — not currently owned. A Boss DD-3 or TC Electronic Flashback would get you there. Delay is ESSENTIAL to this tone—the original used heavy delay as a defining texture. Set around 400-500ms with moderate repeats. Without delay, you'll have clean Tele sparkle but miss 60% of the song's character.
Your Champion 20 is a solid-state Fender voiced similarly to the Twin but with less headroom and a slightly darker midrange. I pushed treble to 7 (original Twin settings were around 6) to compensate for the Champion's softer top-end. Reverb at 6 adds the ambient space that the dual-amp wet signal provided on the recording. The Squier Affinity Tele's bridge pickup is brighter than Buckland's semi-hollow Thinline, so I rolled tone to 7 to tame harshness.
