01Boss DS-1 Distortion
Used strictly as a tight solo boost into the high-gain channel
The DSL40CR's Ultra Gain OD2 mode gives the aggressive, thick saturation Synyster Gates uses, but it needs tight mid-focus rather than loose bass. Running your Boss DS-1 with Dist low and Level boosted into OD2 tightens the Infinity humbuckers on your Ibanez GIO, cutting flub and adding the razor-sharp pick attack heard on the record. Keep Resonance around 4 on the Marshall master section to prevent low-end boominess during fast runs. For the clean acoustic/mellow passages, switch down to the Classic Gain channel and bypass the DS-1.
