Why these settings

The DSL40CR's Ultra Gain channel is inherently more mid-forward than the scooped Mesa Rectifier, so mids stay high but don't need the +7-8 Tremonti ran on the Mesa. Treble dropped to 5 (from his 6) because the DSL's presence circuit adds bite the Mesa doesn't have—presence at 4 keeps it controlled. Without a Tube Screamer to tighten the low end and push the front, gain goes to 7 to compensate for the missing boost saturation. The Starcaster's semi-hollow body and lower-output humbuckers won't hit as hard as his PRS Tremonti pickups, so gain stays firm.

PRO TIPRoll your guitar's tone knob to 8 to knock off the ice-pick frequencies the DSL can produce at high gain—Tremonti's recorded tone has zero fizz. Palm-mute firmly on the chunky rhythm sections; that tight attack is half the tone.
