Like a Stone amp settings — Fender Champion 20
The Audioslave guitar tone for “Like a Stone”, dialed in for a Fender Champion 20 with a Gibson ES-335. Studio version, Audioslave self-titled album (2002)
Marshall JCM800 2205 (overdrive channel), 'Soul Power' Telecaster with Seymour Duncan Hot Rails, DigiTech Whammy for solo
| Knob | Setting (0–10) |
|---|---|
| Gain | 8 |
| Bass | 5 |
| Treble | 7 |
| Master | 6 |
The Champion 20 has no mid or presence controls, only bass/treble with a voice switch. Morello's JCM800 is mid-forward with boosted bass and mids around 7-7.5. To compensate on the scooped Fender voicing, I dropped bass to 5 (prevents mud) and pushed treble to 7 for cut. The voice switch on position 2 (overdrive) gives you the closest approximation to the saturated JCM800 channel. Without a dedicated mid knob, you cannot fully replicate the mid-push—roll your guitar's tone knob to 8 to tame the Fender treble spike and thicken the midrange slightly.
