01DigiTech Whammy (any version)
RECOMMENDED — not currently owned. Set to '1 OCT DOWN' in Whammy mode. This pedal is ESSENTIAL for the main riff — without it, you cannot replicate the signature bass-like sound. Expression pedal fully toe-down during the riff.
02Electro-Harmonix Big Muff Pi
RECOMMENDED — not currently owned. Engaged ONLY for the slide solo section. A Nano Big Muff or any Muff clone works. Without this, use amp gain at maximum for the solo.
The Frontman 10G is a solid-state practice amp with limited headroom and no tube saturation — the Silvertone's raw, breaking-up tube character is unobtainable. Compensate by pushing gain higher (+2 vs original's tube breakup) and rolling treble down (-3) because the Frontman's solid-state treble is harsh where the Silvertone was warm. Your Strat's single coils are brighter and thinner than the Kay's dark hollowbody pickup, so bass is boosted +1 and neck pickup with tone rolled to 6 helps approximate that woody thickness. Without the Whammy pedal, the main riff will sound like a standard guitar line, not the iconic sub-octave bass tone.
