01MXR Analog Chorus

Creates the shimmering organ-like texture; keep rate slow for pad-like swells

02Echoplex Delay

Set delay time to ~370-400ms; feedback at 0 gives exactly ONE repeat at equal volume — this is critical for the rhythmic pattern. Mix at full (100% wet/dry parallel). Each note you play should produce one delayed repeat that interlocks with your next note.

Why these settings

The Champion 25 is a clean platform which suits this effect-driven tone perfectly — the original was clean amp with heavy modulation. Your EVH 5150 guitar has hotter humbuckers vs Eddie's Strat single-coils, so gain stays low (3) and tone knob rolled back to 6 to reduce brightness. No mid or presence knob exists on the Champion 25. The entire 'Cathedral' sound comes from the volume knob technique and delay interaction, not amp distortion.

PRO TIPThe magic is in your RIGHT HAND: start with volume knob at 0, fret a note with your left hand, then smoothly roll volume up to swell in the note — the delay catches it and repeats once. Roll volume back to 0 before the next note. Practice the timing: at 370-400ms delay, you're essentially playing dotted eighth notes. The pattern emerges from delay repeats falling BETWEEN your played notes. Eddie's volume pot eventually froze from the friction heat — keep yours lubricated.
