The Dual Rectifier's Modern mode is too aggressive and scooped for Lukather's liquid LA studio tone, so Channel 2/3 must be set to Vintage mode for warmer mid-range compression. We push the Mid control high to 8 and tame the Treble and Presence to soften the Rectifier's upper-fizz, mimicking a smooth Marshall/Mesa hybrid rack preamp. Since the JP15's Illuminator humbuckers have high output and tight attack, rolling the tone knob back to 8 rounds out the top-end to match his vintage EMG 85 response.
