01Pro Co RAT 2 or similar high-gain distortion
RECOMMENDED — not currently owned. Essential for this tone. The Hot Rod Deluxe drive channel cannot achieve JCM800-level saturation alone. A RAT, DS-1, or MXR Distortion+ will get you there. Set amp to CLEAN channel if using this pedal.
02Boss DD-3 Digital Delay
RECOMMENDED — not currently owned. Short slapback delay thickens lead lines. Set Mode to 800ms range. Run into amp input (no FX loop on HRD IV).
The original tone came from a mid-forward Marshall with hot humbuckers; your Fender HRD is scooped and bright with massive clean headroom, and the Tele's single coils are low-output and trebly. You MUST use a high-gain distortion pedal—the amp's drive channel tops out at classic rock crunch, not 80s metal saturation. I dropped treble from the original 7 to 5 because the HRD's treble shelf is already bright and the Tele bridge pickup is ice-picky. Bass cut from 6-7 to 5 prevents mud since the distortion pedal adds low-end compression.
