01Distortion Pedal (RECOMMENDED — Boss DS-1 or similar)
RECOMMENDED — not currently owned. The Pathfinder 10 is a solid-state practice amp that cannot produce high-gain saturation on its own. A distortion pedal is essential to get anywhere near this tone. A Boss DS-1, Pro Co RAT, or even a cheap Joyo/Donner distortion clone will work. Without this, the tone is unobtainable.
The Vox Pathfinder 10 is a 10-watt solid-state amp with no dedicated gain channel — it simply cannot replicate a cranked Dual Rectifier's saturation. Gain is maxed and treble pushed to 8 to extract every bit of edge the amp offers, but you MUST add an external distortion pedal to achieve the industrial crunch of 'Sonne.' Bass is set high (7) to compensate for the Pathfinder's thinner low-end vs the Rectifier's massive bottom. Mid is kept modest (4) to approximate the 'cold, scooped' Rammstein wall-of-sound character.
