Why these settings

Prince's tone relied on a mid-focused Mesa Mark II pushed by Boss distortion and flanger, whereas the Hot Rod DeVille naturally has a scooped American EQ and a high treble shelf. Pushing the DeVille's mid control to 8 and rolling treble down to 4 compensates for the Strat bridge single coil and mimics the dense Mesa lead voice on the More Drive setting. Reverb is raised to 6 to emulate the First Avenue hall ambience without an external delay pedal. Clean intro chords: switch to the normal Clean channel with Volume at 4 and select the neck+middle pickup.

PRO TIPRoll the Strat's dedicated bridge tone control back to roughly 7 to round off the spike at 3-5 kHz, letting sustained notes bloom into harmonic feedback like Prince's MadCat pickups.
