01Ibanez TS9 Tube Screamer
RECOMMENDED — not currently owned; tightens low-end flub and boosts saturation
02Boss DS-1 Distortion
RECOMMENDED — not currently owned; switch amp to clean channel with gain at 2 when using this
The Fender Frontman 10G has only Gain, Overdrive switch, Volume, Treble, and Bass controls, with no mid or presence knobs. Keep the 6-inch speaker from farting out during palm-muted chugs by capping Bass at 5 and rolling the Strat bridge pickup tone knob down to 8 to soften single-coil icepick frequencies. A TS-style overdrive or dedicated distortion pedal will massively upgrade this tone by providing genuine high-gain saturation without speaker fizz.
