Primary gain source — RAT's aggressive clipping approximates the Marshall JCM800 saturation. Filter at 4 keeps it from getting too fizzy while retaining pick attack.

BYPASSED for main rhythm — engage only for lead boost with Dist at 0, using it as a mid-push/volume lift

Why these settings

The Champion 50XL has no mid or presence knob — only bass/treble with a Voicing selector. The original MCR tone is mid-scooped (Frank ran mids 3-4), which the Champion's naturally scooped Fender voicing partially provides. Your amp cannot produce JCM800/Rockerverb saturation on its own, so the RAT2 becomes your gain stage — amp stays clean to avoid mud. RAT Filter at 4 compensates for the Fender's bright treble shelf. Treble 6 (not 8) prevents ice-pick harshness since the RAT already adds high-end grit.

PRO TIPMCR's chunk comes from aggressive downstroke palm-muting with the pick angled slightly — dig in hard right at the bridge saddles. Layer your own rhythm tracks if recording: pan one hard left, one hard right, each with slightly different RAT Filter positions (3 and 5) to create that massive Black Parade width.
