This is your primary dirt source — set Drive high to approximate the Big Muff/Animato fuzz wall. Blend at 7 keeps enough clean low-end to prevent mud. Run into amp input, amp Overdrive button OFF to avoid double-gain stacking.

02Electro-Harmonix Bass Big Muff Pi

RECOMMENDED — not currently owned. The original tone used Big Muff on one of three amp splits. Stacking this AFTER the SansAmp (SansAmp Drive at 4, Big Muff Sustain at 7) would nail the synth-like sustain. The SansAmp alone gets you 70% there.

Why these settings

The original used three parallel amps with different dirt characters blended — your single Rumble 100 cannot replicate this complexity. The SansAmp's Blend control is critical: it lets clean low-end pass through while the Drive adds the grinding mids, simulating the clean/dirty amp split. I dropped amp gain to 3 and pushed SansAmp Drive to 8 because the Rumble's onboard Overdrive is mild and fizzy compared to Marshall-into-Big-Muff saturation. Mid pushed to 8 because Wolstenholme's tone cuts through a wall of Bellamy's guitars — the Rumble is naturally scooped, so we compensate hard.

PRO TIPPlay with a pick, angled slightly, and attack hard near the bridge for that percussive, consistent note definition. The original riff is played with aggressive alternate picking — finger-style will sound too rounded. If your SansAmp has the 'Mid' switch mod or you can access the VT Bass version, boosting 1kHz specifically nails the 'singing' quality of the Hysteria tone.
