RECOMMENDED — not currently owned. Essential to tighten low end and add midrange push that compensates for your Strat's lower output and brighter voicing. The original rig used the Mesa preamp for this function; a TS into your JCM800 replicates that tight, focused saturation.

Why these settings

Your JCM800 2203 is literally half of Hetfield's original rig — he used it as the power amp. The challenge is your Strat: single coils are brighter and lower output than his hot humbuckers, so I raised bass +1 and kept mids scooped at 3 to match the signature thrash scoop. The TS pedal is critical — it adds the compression, mid-focus, and low-end tightening that the Mesa preamp provided on the original. Without it, your tone will be looser and thinner.

PRO TIPHetfield's tone lives in his picking hand — all downstrokes, palm-muted hard against the bridge with the heel of your hand barely touching the strings. Angle your pick about 45 degrees and attack aggressively. This technique matters more than any knob setting for getting that percussive, machinegun thrash sound.
