The Hot Rod Deluxe IV is a blues-oriented tube amp that cannot physically reach modern Mesa Dual Rectifier saturation on its own, so we engage the 'More Drive' channel with gain pushed to 8 to deliver the maximum playable bite today. To compensate for thin single-coil Strat pickups against the humbucker-driven original, bass is pushed to 7 while treble and presence are rolled back to smooth out the amp's naturally glassy 6kHz top end. If you acquire a high-gain pedal like the recommended Metal Zone, switch the amp to the clean channel with gain set to 2.
