01ProCo Rat or Turbo Rat

RECOMMENDED — not owned. Essential for the grinding distortion on 'The Pot.' The Rumble 15 cannot produce this saturation from the amp alone. A Boss DS-1 or cheap Rat clone will get you close.

Distortion 6 · Filter 4 · Volume 7

02DigiTech Bass Whammy

RECOMMENDED — not owned. Used for the octave-up warbles and pitch effects throughout the song. Set to octave up harmony mode. Without this, play the riff straight — you lose the signature effect but keep the notes.

Why these settings

The Rumble 15 has NO mid knob — it runs bass/treble only. Chancellor's tone is extremely mid-heavy (mids 9-10 on his GK), but without a mid control you compensate by cutting bass to 3 and pushing treble to 7, which reveals the upper-mids by not masking them. The Rumble's 8-inch speaker cannot handle heavy distortion cleanly — keep amp gain LOW at 3 and let a Rat pedal do all the dirt work. Your Schecter's active EMG-HZ pickups are hotter than a passive Wal, so no gain boost needed.

PRO TIPChancellor uses a pick with aggressive attack near the bridge for that clacky, grinding articulation. Dig in hard and angle the pick slightly to get harmonic overtones. For the verse riff, mute with your palm lightly to keep it tight. Drop D tuning is mandatory (D-A-D-G).
