01Distortion pedal (Boss DS-1 or similar)
RECOMMENDED — not currently owned. Essential for this tone; the Pathfinder 10 cannot produce Marshall-style crunch on its own. Keep amp gain at 3-4 when using this pedal to avoid mud.
The Pathfinder 10 is a clean-voiced 10-watt solid-state with no mid control and limited gain — it cannot reach JCM800/Plexi saturation alone. Amp gain maxed still yields only light breakup, so a distortion pedal is mandatory for this tone. I've set treble high (7) to compensate for the Yamaha ERG121's ceramic humbucker being darker than Slash's Alnico IIs. Bass at 4 keeps the small speaker from flubbing.
