01Boss SD-1 Super OverDrive
RECOMMENDED — not currently owned; adds smooth sustain and tightens the front end
The HB-20R has a smaller 8-inch speaker and an analog solid-state overdrive circuit, so gain is pushed to 7 on the Overdrive channel to replicate the singing sustain of Slash's cranked Marshall. Midrange is pushed high to recreate the thick vocal cut, while treble is kept at 5 and the guitar's neck tone knob rolled to 6 to emulate Slash's warm 'woman tone' without solid-state fizz. If you add the recommended SD-1 pedal later, run the amp on clean with gain at 3 and use the pedal for saturation. Fast outro solo switch: flip guitar pickup switch to bridge and open tone knob to 10.
