01Boss DS-1 or similar distortion
RECOMMENDED — not currently owned. Essential for reaching the saturated crunch of the original; the GA-10 clean channel cannot produce this gain level alone. Keep amp gain at 2-3 when using this pedal.
The GA-10 is a small solid-state practice amp with only gain, bass, treble, and volume — no mid, presence, or reverb controls. Its preamp cannot reach Mesa/Fender stack saturation, so a distortion pedal is mandatory for this tone. I've set amp gain low (2-3 with the pedal, or 7 as a fallback without) to avoid muddy stacking. Bass pulled to 4 because small speakers lose definition when pushed.
