01Boss HM-2 or DS-1 (Distortion Pedal)
RECOMMENDED — not currently owned. The original used a Boss FZ-2 Hyper Fuzz for the gritty harmonic overtones. A DS-1 or any aggressive distortion pedal stacked with the amp's gain will approximate the scooped, grinding character. Without this pedal, push amp gain to 10 and accept a smoother, less aggressive tone.
The HB-20R is a small solid-state practice amp — it lacks the preamp saturation and tight low-end of a Marshall rack preamp or Mesa power section. I dropped bass from the original's 6-7 down to 5 because small speakers get muddy fast with detuned riffs, and the amp won't handle the sub-frequencies anyway. Mid stays scooped at 4 to retain that nu-metal scoop, but your amp's mid circuit is voiced higher than the original, so you won't get the same chest-punch. Without a distortion pedal, you're relying entirely on the amp's clipping, which will sound thinner and fizzier than the original's warm tube grind.
