RECOMMENDED — not currently owned
The 65 Deluxe Reverb faceplate has only Volume, Treble, Bass, and Reverb (no gain, mid, or presence controls), so Volume is pushed to 7 where power-tube saturation begins. Because the Deluxe Reverb has a scooped American midrange and your Player Strat has single coils rather than Richie's hot bridge humbucker, keep Treble at 5 and roll the guitar tone to 8 to avoid ice-pick highs. An analog overdrive pedal like an SD-1 is essential to deliver the full JCM800-style crunch this clean-platform amp cannot reach alone. Clean bridge/intro arpeggios: roll guitar volume down to 6.
