Why these settings

The GM108 is a clean-platform practice amp with no mid control or presence — it cannot replicate the JCM800's mid-forward overdrive on its own. Gain is pushed to 7 to get maximum preamp saturation from the amp's limited drive circuit. Bass is pulled to 5 (vs original's 7) because the GM108's bass control is broad and boomy at higher settings. Treble is set to 6 to preserve string clarity without the harshness the amp produces above 7. The Whammy pedal is the signature element of this solo and cannot be faked — without it, the pitch-shifted solo lines are impossible. A delay pedal (fast slapback, high feedback) is also essential for the tone's thickness but is not owned.

PRO TIPTom Morello rolls his guitar volume back slightly during the verse arpeggio sections (around 7-8 on the knob) to clean up the tone, then slams it to 10 for the Whammy solo — practice that dynamic shift to separate the sections convincingly.
