R U Mine amp settings — Squier Frontman 10g
The Arctic Monkeys guitar tone for “R U Mine”, dialed in for a Squier Frontman 10g with a Stratocaster Sonic. Studio version, AM album (2013)
Gibson Les Paul Custom with humbuckers → ProCo RAT 2 (or dual RATs) → Fender/Vox-style clean amp. Alex Turner used the RAT for the aggressive, snarling distortion; amp stayed relatively clean as a platform.
| Knob | Setting (0–10) |
|---|---|
| Gain | 7 |
| Bass | 4 |
| Treble | 6 |
| Master | 5 |
01ProCo RAT 2 (or clone: Donner Dark Mouse, Mooer Black Secret)
RECOMMENDED — not currently owned. This is essential for the R U Mine tone; the Frontman cannot produce this level of saturation on its own. Budget clones under $40 get you 90% there.
The Frontman 10G has no mid or presence knob (bass/treble only), and its small speaker cannot produce high-gain saturation cleanly. Original tone came from a RAT pedal into a clean amp — you MUST add a RAT-style distortion to reach this tone. Amp gain at 7 adds slight grit to thicken the pedal's output without mud. Bass dropped to 4 (vs original's 5) because the 6" speaker gets flubby above that. Treble at 6 compensates for your Strat's single coils being brighter than Turner's humbucker Les Paul.
