01Analog Delay or Tape Echo (RECOMMENDED — not currently owned)

RECOMMENDED — not owned. The Echoplex delay is essential to this tone. A Boss DD-3, Donner Yellow Fall, or any analog-voiced delay set to ~350ms with moderate repeats gets you there. Budget options exist under $30.

Why these settings

The Frontman 10G is a solid-state practice amp with limited headroom and a brighter, thinner voice than a cranked tube Tweed Deluxe. Pushed gain to 7 to simulate tube breakup (original was cranked volume on a 12W tube amp). Rolled treble down to 5 and boosted mid to 6 to compensate for your Strat's single coils vs Felder's PAF humbuckers—single coils are brighter and thinner, so we're adding warmth. Neck pickup with tone at 6 fattens the sound to approximate that Les Paul neck-humbucker bloom.

PRO TIPFelder's secret weapon was his picking dynamics—he dug in hard on accented notes to push the amp into breakup, then backed off for cleaner sustain. Practice controlling your attack: light touch for the held notes, aggressive dig for the melodic peaks. This makes a solid-state amp feel more alive.
