I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor amp settings — Squier Frontman 10G

The Arctic Monkeys guitar tone for “I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor”, dialed in for a Squier Frontman 10G with a Squier Sonic Stratocaster. Studio version, Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not (2005)

Original rig

Fender American Vintage '52 Telecaster (bridge pickup) → Fulltone OCD → Vox AC30 (and Hiwatt with spring reverb). Echoplex tape delay on some parts, mostly dry and aggressive.

Frantic, trebly, punchy British indie crunch—biting attack on alternate-picked single-note riffs, urgent and raw with minimal effects

01Overdrive/Distortion pedal (e.g., Boss SD-1, Joyo Vintage Overdrive, or Behringer TO800)

RECOMMENDED — not currently owned. A TS-style or OCD-style overdrive is essential; the Frontman 10G cannot produce this crunch on its own. Budget options: Joyo Vintage Overdrive (~$30), Behringer TO800 (~$25), Boss SD-1 (~$60). The pedal IS your gain source—amp stays nearly clean.

Why these settings

The Frontman 10G is a 10-watt solid-state practice amp with only gain, bass, treble, and volume—no mid, presence, or reverb knobs. It cannot produce the OCD-driven AC30 crunch at any gain setting; maxing the gain just gets fizzy and undefined through the 6" speaker. Keep the amp nearly clean (gain 3) and let an overdrive pedal provide ALL the dirt—this preserves note clarity. Treble pushed to 7 compensates for the Strat's slightly darker bridge single-coil vs the Tele's brighter bridge pickup; bass at 4 tightens the small speaker's loose low end.

PRO TIPThe urgency of this tone comes from picking attack, not gain—use a stiff pick (Tortex .88mm+), strike close to the bridge, and alternate-pick aggressively with your wrist locked. Roll the guitar's tone knob down to 6-7 if the highs get ice-picky on the small speaker.
