Pink Triangle amp settings — Fender Frontman 10G

The Weezer guitar tone for “Pink Triangle”, dialed in for a Fender Frontman 10G with a Yamaha Pacifica 112V. Studio version, Pinkerton (1996) — raw, self-produced sound recorded at Sound City Studios

Original rig

Mesa Boogie Mark I into Marshall stack with Vintage Celestions; Les Paul DC with P90s or Strat copy; multiple distortion pedals chained for abrasive texture; no external producer — band self-produced for intentionally raw, live sound

Gritty, mid-forward crunch with raw edge and slight snarl; less saturated than the verses of heavier Pinkerton tracks but still driven; open chord shimmer on the glockenspiel-accompanied intro gives way to punchy power-pop grind

01Boss DS-1 Distortion

RECOMMENDED — not currently owned. The Frontman 10G cannot produce the necessary grit on its own; a DS-1 or similar affordable distortion pedal is essential to reach Pinkerton's raw crunch. Run into the amp's clean headroom.

Why these settings

The original used a Mesa Mark I and stacked distortion pedals for raw saturation the Frontman 10G simply cannot generate from its small solid-state preamp. Amp gain at 7 provides a touch of hair but the DS-1 is the real gain source — amp stays relatively clean to avoid muddy stacking with the pedal. The Frontman 10G has no mid knob; its voicing is already slightly scooped, which actually suits Pinkerton's aggressive but not overly thick texture. Treble at 6 adds bite without fizz through the 6-inch speaker.

PRO TIPCuomo's Pinkerton tone lives in aggressive pick attack and letting open strings ring into each other — dig in hard near the bridge pickup and don't mute too cleanly; the slop is part of the sound.
