Everybody wants some amp settings — Fender Front man 10 g
The Van halen guitar tone for “Everybody wants some”, dialed in for a Fender Front man 10 g with a PRS S2 Standard 24. Studio cut, Women and Children First (1980)
1968 Marshall 1959 Super Lead 100W (Variac set to ~90V, all knobs dimed on 10) into 4x12 Marshall 1960A cab with Celestion G12M Greenbacks, Frankenstrat with Gibson PAF bridge humbucker, MXR Phase 90, MXR Flanger
| Knob | Setting (0–10) |
|---|---|
| Gain | 2 |
| Bass | 5 |
| Treble | 5 |
| Master | 4 |
01ProCo RAT2
Gain source: dialed for early-80s Marshall Plexi crunch instead of heavy fuzz
02Boss BF-3 Flanger
Used intermittently for string scrapes and accent sweeps; keep bypassed during standard rhythm
03Boss RV-6 Reverb
Set mode to Room to replicate the Sunset Sound Studio II live room ambience
The Frontman 10G has only Volume, Gain, Drive Select, Bass, and Treble with no mid or presence knobs. Because its small 6-inch speaker and solid-state overdrive buzz quickly, your owned ProCo RAT2 is selected as the primary gain source running into the clean channel (Drive Select button OFF, Gain kept low at 2) to emulate a cranked Plexi without harsh solid-state clipping. Keep the RAT's Filter around 6 to tame harsh upper frequencies while keeping Bass and Treble flat on the amp. For the intro and solo texture where Eddie used a Phase 90, leave the BF-3 bypassed or engage it solely for the signature flanger swoosh at 1:07.
