01Ibanez Tube Screamer TS808
RECOMMENDED — not owned. SRV used this as an always-on clean boost, not distortion. The TS pushes the Vibroverb's front end into natural breakup and fattens the mids. Without it, you'll lose the signature woody thickness — crank the amp's gain to 6-7 to compensate, but a TS clone (TS9, TS Mini, Plumes) gets you 90% closer.
Blues Junior IV is a close cousin to the Vibroverb (both blackface Fenders, 6V6 power tubes, scoop-forward EQ). The Junior has no presence knob — its treble control doubles as presence on the power amp, so treble is set to 7 to match the original's sparkle. The TS808 was SRV's entire front-end: he ran it always-on with drive low and level high to slam the amp's input into singing sustain. Without the TS, the Junior won't compress or thicken the same way — push gain to 6-7 and bass to 7 to approximate it, or buy a TS clone.
