01Boss DS-1 Distortion

RECOMMENDED — not currently owned. Essential for this tone. The Blues Junior cannot produce high-gain saturation on its own. A DS-1, RAT, or Metal Zone is required to get anywhere close to Rectifier-level gain.

RECOMMENDED — not currently owned. Place after distortion pedal. Necessary at these gain levels to control single-coil hum and feedback between riffs.

Why these settings

The Blues Junior is a clean platform amp with no high-gain channel — without a distortion pedal, this tone is impossible. Amp gain is maxed to add whatever grit the preamp offers, but the heavy lifting must come from an external dirt pedal. Mid is cranked to 10 because Fenders are naturally scooped; the original Rectifier tone is mid-forward. Treble is dropped to 4 because your Strat's single-coil bridge pickup is significantly brighter than the PRS humbuckers used on the recording. Reverb is zero — the original is bone dry.

PRO TIPYour Strat's single coils will sound thinner and icier than the original's humbuckers no matter what. To compensate, pick closer to the neck (not over the bridge pickup), use the fat part of your pick rather than the tip, and consider tuning to Drop D instead of Drop C — Drop C on light Strat strings will be floppy and undefined.
