Why these settings

The Champion 50XL faceplate features Bass and Treble controls (no dedicated Mid knob or Presence control, so both are nulled). Using the ''65 Deluxe' blackface voicing replicates SRV's Vibroverb tone, with gain set to 6 to emulate power tube edge-of-breakup without an external drive pedal. Treble is pushed to 7 to compensate for the naturally lower output of Squier Affinity ceramic pickups while maintaining glassy top-end snap.

PRO TIPSRV tuned down a half-step to Eb standard and held a heavy pick sideways (using the rounded shoulder) to dig aggressively into the strings for his thick, percussive Texas blues snap.
