Why these settings

The Max music practice amp is a basic solid-state unit with limited controls, so the owned MXR Distortion+ acts as the main gain stage into a clean amp setting (gain at 2). The Les Paul's humbuckers provide naturally thicker sustain than Prince's single-coil MadCat, so the bridge tone knob is pulled slightly back to 8 to smooth harsh high-end while maintaining upper-mid cut. Delay and reverb carry the iconic arena atmosphere into the front of the amp.

PRO TIPDig in hard with the edge of your pick near the bridge for singing pinch harmonics, and use wide, slow finger vibrato on sustained whole notes to replicate Prince's expressive vocal-like sustain.
